ecoNOMY®

Valve & Hydrant Chamber System

Developed specifically for the utilities sector, the ecoNOMY® chamber provides an environmentally friendly solution for valve, hydrant and metre chamber applications. These one-piece moulded sections are the UK’s leading composite chamber system with over 5 million units installed on water utility networks throughout the country. These can be supplied with our range of ductile iron or ecoNOMY® composite surface boxes and frames.

Key Benefits

Design Capabilities

Traditional concrete products are heavy, brittle and can be difficult to handle on-site, causing costly replacements for breakages or lost-time due to fatigue or injury. Each chamber section is a one-piece moulding that is far lighter than concrete without compromising on strength and durability.

The ecoNOMY® system has been tested to BSEN124:2015 D400 loadings and is compliant with BS 5834-4:2001.

SV Chambers – Predominantly used for sluice valves or stop tap chambers with three sizes: 150x150mm, 180x180mm and 230x230mm.

Standard Chambers – Used for fire hydrants, wash outs, sluice valves, air valves and metre chambers with three sizes used: 380x230mm, 430x280mm and 600x450mm.

Larger Chambers – Used for larger valve applications such as pressure reducing valve chambers where additional working space is required. These chambers are available in 900x600mm, 1200x675mm, 1200x750mm and 1200x900mm.

Strength to Weight Ratio

As the ecoNOMY® system is manufactured from 100% recycled raw materials, the unit weights are far lower than traditional materials offering significantly reduced manual handling & H&S implications for site personnel. There are no sharp or rough edges on chambers which can also be drilled or adapted on-site to fit around existing services.

Environmentally Friendly Material

ecoNOMY® chambers are manufactured from 100% recycled post-industrial PVC destined for landfill which can also be fully recycled at the end of their service life.

Load Rating

ecoNOMY® chambers have been independently tested in accordance with BSEN124 D400 loadings and are suitable for areas imposing wheel loads of 40 tonne such as highways and trunk roads.

Sizes within Range

The ecoNOMY® range incorporates all industry standard sizes and depths and can be configured to site specific depth requirements.

Load Bearing System

Available in 75mm and 150mm depths as standard, the ecoNOMY® chambers are also available in 25mm, 50mm and 100mm in certain sizes. Chambers simply interlock to form a completely load bearing unit. Chambers work in conjunction with the leading surface box and cover & frame options available on the market.

Industry Standard Sizes

The ecoNOMY® chamber system has a range of industry standard clear openings. These provide finished access chambers from 150x150mm to 1200x900mm.

We also offer a vast range of bespoke size options up to 3500x3500mm and beyond with our EasyPIT® Ultra.

How are they Built?

ecoNOMY® chambers can be assembled by utilising the interlocking chamber ring sections that are simply stacked on top of each other. This process is continued until the specified depth required on-site has been reached.

The smaller valve/hydrant chambers have been designed with a rebated top so that they positively engage with the section below. All standard small sizes are below 25 kg and as such are suitable for single person lift within manual handling regulations.
